On February 23, 1999, the town of Carver expressed a desire to build a gazebo between the Town Hall and the Library. Dan Ryan and his committee met and estimated the cost of the project to be $70,000. Thanks to the efforts of donations and volunteers, the cost was lowered to $40,000. However, the involvement of students in Old Colony's Carpentry Department helped lower the price to the $5,000-$8,000 range.

As soon as the 1999-2000 school year started, the Old Colony Carpentry Shop got started on the drawings. After the drawings were completed, the first stage of building the gazebo began.

The gazebo was built in sections, which were completed in the shop at the school. Once sections were done, the materials and tools were moved to Carver. At the job site, the students wasted no time in getting started, as the cold of winter was becoming a factor.

The first day, the floor and poles were put up. The work progressed at a steady pace and before long, the gazebo was completed. The town of Carver was very happy and the students had gained an excellent learning experience.

The Carver gazebo could not have been built without the help of the following students:
