Because Old Colony constitutes a substantial labor pool to the business and industry of the region, we are encouraging employers to participate in our Cooperative Education Program (Co-Op). This program allows qualified students to work in their fields, on a part-time basis, during the school year. By means of carefully selected placements, we have found that a high percentage of our co-op students stay on as full-time employees after graduation.
At Old Colony we feel that actual "job experience" is a vital part of our vocational training. However, co-op placements are limited to students who display a high level of skill, as well as a positive attitude toward work. Our intent is to serve the employer well and establish a lasting relationship.
Students in the co-op program are expected to receive some training on the job, but generally their past training allows them to be quite productive with minimal supervision. Also we try to keep the program somewhat flexible, in order to meet the needs of the employers.
