Web Team members have helped Old Colony become the two-time state champions in Web Design, having captured consecutive Massachusetts SkillsUSA Championships in 2005 & 2006!

The two winning Web Design teams followed their state victories with 3rd-place (2005) and 6th-place (2006) finishes at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri!

Old Colony Web Team

The Old Colony Web Team is comprised of Computer Information Technology students. Team members have enhanced their knowledge of web technologies & programs, such as HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Extensible HyperText Markup Language (XHTML), JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Flash, ActionScript, Adobe PhotoShop, and Adobe Premiere, while contributing to the construction and maintenance of the Old Colony website.

Web Team members also expand their understanding of web design principles, including layout, composition, navigation, color theory, and browser resolution requirements, while working on the school website. Digital photography and digital video are an important component of the group's activities, as well.

Members of the Web Team have designed many websites for community, educational, and governmental organizations, including:

  • Town of Acushnet (Official website)
  • Massachusetts State Senator Joan M. Menard
  • Plymouth County District Attorney
  • Massachusetts Vocational Association (MVA)
  • Rochester Council on Aging
  • Community Nurse & Hospice Care (Fairhaven, MA)
  • Bristol Community College Tech-Prep
  • Old Colony Online Store (OC Threads E-Commerce site)
  • Assistive School Systems Educational Technology Services (ASSETS, Inc.)

Web Team members have also won many awards in local, state, and national competitions, including:

  • First-, second-, and third-place in the 2002 Fall River Rotary Club Web Competition
  • A clean sweep of the top five awards in the 2003 Bristol Community College Web Competition
  • First- and second-place awards in the 2004 Bristol Community College Web Competition
  • First- and two second-place awards in the 2005 Bristol Community College Web Competition
  • First- and second-place awards in the 2006 Bristol Community College Web Competition
  • SkillsUSA Gold Medal winners (state champs in Web Design) at the 2005 Massachusetts SkillsUSA Championships
  • Bronze Medal winners (3rd-place in the nation) in Web Design at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, MO, in June 2005
  • SkillsUSA Gold Medal winners (state champs in Web Design) at the 2006 Massachusetts SkillsUSA Championships
  • Sixth-place finish in Web Design at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, MO, in June 2006
  • Second- and third-place awards in the 2007 Bristol Community College Web Competition

The Web Team is very proud of its six national awards and recognitions:

  • Three National School Public Relations Association Awards of Merit
  • Education World's "Cool School of the Week" award (for the week of 10/25/99)
  • One of the six national finalists for Education World's "Cool School of the Year" award for 1999 (won by Kenston High School of Chagrin Falls, Ohio)
  • Lightspan Study Web's Academic Excellence Award
