Old Colony SkillsUSA participants win 5 State medals

Old Colony’s SkillsUSA Chapter participated in the Skills USA Massachusetts State Skills and Leadership Conference in Marlboro, MA, from April 30 – May 2, 2009. Competing against vocational students from across the state, Old Colony students won five medals in 13 competitions. The winning OC medalists were:

Old Colony SkillsUSA participants win 25 District medals

Old Colony’s Chapter of Skills USA participated in the South District Skills Competition on February 24, 2009, at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech. Over 600 students from seven southeastern Massachusetts vocational-technical high schools competed. Old Colony students did an outstanding job and captured 25 medals.

NHS conducts annual Induction Ceremony

The Old Colony Chapter of the National Honor Society recently conducted its twentieth annual Induction Ceremony. The students were selected for membership based upon their scholarship, leadership, service and character. Students are selected by the National Honor Society Faculty Council. NHS wins 9th national Outstanding Service Project Award at Florida conference

The Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School Chapter of the National Honor Society was awarded a national Outstanding Service Project Award as part of the National Honor Society Conference held in Orlando, Florida, November 7-9, 2008. Twenty-four students represented Old Colony at the sixteenth annual conference.

This is the ninth time and sixth year in a row that Old Colony has received a national Outstanding service Project Award. This year the award was received for the service project Button, Button, Who’s Got the Button? This project involved creating button brooches with senior citizens and members if a convalescent home.

Old Colony was one of ten NHS Chapters that received national awards for outstanding service to their school and community this year.

Nearly 900 National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society members and faculty advisors from across the country participated in the National Conference held this year in Orlando, Florida. During the three-day conference, delegates attended workshop sessions on leadership, teamwork, effective student projects, and heard presentations from nationally known speakers. In addition, members networked with student leaders and advisors from schools across the nation, discussed social, educational, and political issues and exchanged ideas.

NHS members attend 7th Annual Massachusetts Fall NHS State Conference

Twelve members of the Old Colony’s Chapter of the National Honor Society attended the 7th Annual Massachusetts Fall NHS State Conference on October 6, 2008. The conference was held for advisors and members at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.

The conference featured Ken Sherman, a financial consultant, as a keynote speaker for the student sessions, and David Cordts, the Associate Director of the National Office of the National Honor Society as a keynote speaker and presenter for the advisor workshops. Students also attended workshops on Stereotyping, Surviving Freshman Year in College, Importance of Credit, Financial Aid, What We Do Best, Fundraisers, and Adopt a Charity (American Red Cross).

OC students win 4 SkillsUSA medals at 2008 state competition

The Old Colony chapter of Skills USA had a very successful weekend at the State Skills and Leadership Conference in Marlborough, MA. On May 1, 2, and 3, Old Colony students pitted their skills against other vocational students in Massachusetts. This conference boasts 2500 participants. Old Colony was represented by 22 contestants and 10 delegates in 12 contests and they captured 4 medals. The results were as follows:

Old Colony NHS Chapter wins 8th national service project award

The Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School Chapter of the National Honor Society was awarded a national Outstanding Service Project Award as part of the National Honor Society Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia, November 9-11, 2007. Thirteen students represented Old Colony at the fifteenth annual conference.

This is the eighth time and fifth year in a row that Old Colony has received a national Outstanding Service Project Award. This year the award was received for the service project Beading the Odds. This project involved making beaded bracelets for both adults and children which were then donated to a local women?s shelter.

Old Colony was one of ten NHS Chapters that received national awards for outstanding service to their school and community this year, and is the only chapter in the country to have won eight Outstanding Service Project awards.

2007 SkillsUSA District Competition

On March 13, 2007, 75 student-members of Old Colony’s Chapter of Skills-USA participated in the district competition held at Upper Cape Regional Vocational Technical High School in Bourne, MA. Old Colony pitted its skills and knowledge in 18 trade areas against other area vocational schools. The Cougars’ efforts were well rewarded, as Old Colony competitors took home 4 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. Congratulations to all competing students!

Six participate in SkillsUSA leadership conference

Six Old Colony students participated in the SkillsUSA Fall State Leadership Conference in Marlborough, MA, this past November 20, 21, and 22, 2006. Community service and leadership development were the focus of the conference. All six students achieved their leadership awards with the highest possible score.
