Rudy's Old Colony Visit - 2003

Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, one of the most popular motivational speakers in the United States, visited Old Colony and spoke to students at the annual "Excellence in Effort Award" ceremony on June 12, 2003.

It was very appropriate that Rudy spoke at this event, which honors students who exemplify the work ethic of vocational education and exhibt the motivation, effort, and desire to succeed in his/her vocational area.

In twenty-seven seconds, Rudy carved his name into history books as perhaps the most famous graduate of the University of Notre Dame. In 1993, Tristar Production immortalized his life story with the blockbuster film "Rudy." The "Rudy" story is one of hard work, respect for one's self and others, and rise from discouragement and despair to the pinnacle of success.

At his Old Colony address, scenes from the film projected onto a large screen in the school's gymnasium as Rudy encouraged the entire student body to pursue their dreams, make the right choices, and develop the passion, motivation, and persistence to achieve their goals.

After his inspiring address to the students, Rudy talked to dozens of students and then toured the "wood shop" (the Old Colony Carpentry Department), followed by a group of excited students. The students truly enjoyed Rudy's visit and were inspired by his message on the importance of developing character, courage, commitment, and self-respect.
